History
The Indian national flag was adopted on 22 July 1947, during a meeting of the Constituent Assembly. It evolved from earlier designs used during the independence movement.
Design & Proportions
The flag's length-to-height ratio is 3:2, and all bands are equal in size. The Ashoka Chakra has 24 spokes and is navy blue in color.
Ashoka Chakra
The Ashoka Chakra represents the wheel of law and symbolizes righteousness and progress. It appears at the center of the white band.
Flag Etiquette
- Always hoist the flag in a respectful manner.
- The flag should never touch the ground or water.
- When displayed horizontally, saffron should be on top.
- When displayed vertically, saffron should be on the left.
